X-STEM Conference

Our students in grades 5-8 had the awesome opportunity to explore the vast world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math at this year's X-STEM conference at the Leesburg Convention Center. Our students learned about the importance of building firewalls for protecting software and data through a hands-on workshop led by local experts. After the firewall module was over, we learned all about Animal Forensics from Dr. Rebecca Johnson, the chief scientist and associate director for the Smithsonian museum of Natural History.  Dr. Johnson detailed her extensive research and conservation efforts with Koalas along the bush of Australia.  After a brief lunch break, our students returned for a symposium on Aerospace Engineering and the power of music from Grammy nominated artist Roy Moye III!  Moye delighted students with an interactive rap, all about the science of flight. It was a very exciting and informative day, leaving students inspired for future careers and adventures in STEM!!
